What we do

A quiet trade between two homes

We work with a small network of growers, roasters, weavers and perfumers across Dubai, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah — then handle every step of import, storage and delivery from our warehouse in Rockford.

Emirati Coffee

Light-roast gahwa blends with cardamom, saffron and clove — roasted to order in 250g and 1kg tins so nothing loses its bloom on the shelf.

🌴

Medjool & Khalas Dates

Harvested in the Liwa oases, hand-graded, and vacuum-sealed within 72 hours. Available plain, stuffed with pistachio, or dipped in single-origin dark chocolate.

🕯️

Aged Oud & Bakhoor

Cambodian, Hindi and Emirati oud chips aged 6–14 years, plus resin bakhoor blended for us by a fourth-generation Deira perfumer.

🧵

Hand-Woven Textiles

Sadu-weave cushions, camel-wool throws and mother-of-pearl-inlaid trays — produced in cooperatives that pay weavers per piece, not per hour.

🌿

Saffron & Spice

Grade-1 Persian and Kashmiri saffron cupped and re-graded on arrival, plus baharat, zaatar and dried Omani limes for the serious cook.

🎁

Gift Curation

Custom wooden gift boxes for weddings, corporate holidays and Ramadan — assembled by hand at our Matthews Street workshop.

Why Burnus

Sourced honestly. Priced fairly. Shipped carefully.

The name Burnus comes from the hooded cloak worn across North Africa and the Gulf — a garment that has crossed deserts for centuries. We think of ourselves the same way: a small, sturdy bridge between craft and household.

Every product is traceable to the family or cooperative that made it. Nothing on our shelf is drop-shipped, nothing is white-labeled, and nothing sits in our warehouse for more than 60 days. If we can't get it right, we don't stock it.

Kind words

From households, hosts and restaurateurs

"I've bought coffee from Peter for six years. Every tin arrives fresh, every question gets a real answer, every order is thanked personally. That is genuinely rare."

MK
Marion K.Madison, WI

"Our restaurant orders their saffron and baharat monthly. The consistency of the grading is what keeps us here — no other US importer we've tried comes close."

RA
Rafi A.Chef, Chicago

"I sent a Ramadan gift box to my parents in Ohio. It was packed like a piece of jewelry. My mother called me twice about the dates."
